I am currently trying out Blujay. Read the remainder of the blog entry for my first impressions for Canadian businesses.
I believe that they can help process payments easily. I tried it already, and it allows us to adjust prices after the order has been placed. Both parties must agree to the price, so that it is very safe.
Blujay makes money through advertising, so it is completely free to both buyers and sellers.
You, as a seller, only have to think about 3 things, other than your own products and services.
- payment methods
- shipping costs
- sales tax
I recommend using PayPal at the start. It is simple and free to set up. For the basic setups, you can just pay 2.9% + $.30 per transaction, which keeps it very simple. This makes estimating your first sales easy. Once business starts to build up and become consistent, then you should consider other PayPal setups.
Canada Post explains its services fairly well. The company is running at a profit, so you can trust that it will offer great service.
Canada Revenue Agency states that the threshold for businesses that are not public service bodies is $30,000 in yearly sales. This is more than adequate for those who are just learning and experimenting. Even if you make less than $30,000 each year, you might still want to get a sales tax number, to help you pay less taxes. However, I recommend doing that after you have had some sales.
