The Strong Bond Of Morals And Faith

What attack on Christianity is coming down the pipe? On May 6th, Dr. Peter Boghossian gave a public lecture, called "Faith: Pretending to know things you don't know". The rest of my post is a warning to all devout Christians, with suggestions on how to react.

[DISCLAIMER: I only watched the introduction, and not the entire video; if he never said the things that I thought that he said, then my comments are a response to only people in general.]

According to this video introduction, *if* I understand correctly, non-Christians are seeking to separate morality and faith. If they can convince you that faith in God does not result in good morals, then you will have a huge challenge on your hands.

I think that some people, who claim to have faith, are no different that non-Christians. For some time, I have been accusing them of being non-Christians. No doubt these so called Christians will jump on the band wagon, and attack faithful people, saying, "Well, I won't accuse you of not having faith. In fact I sense that you have sincere faith. However, many very devout people have faith, and yet they are extremely immoral. How can you say that faith automatically results in good morals? Hitler said that he was a Christian.".

Look at it this way: is there a person in the Bible, who had good faith, yet had bad morals? I understand that we are not perfect, and I am not pointing fingers at people, who make the occasional mistake. However, have you ever seen somebody in the Bible, maintain a bad moral for an extended period of time? I suspect that the apostle Peter forever struggled with eating with gentiles, but I am confident that he also let that go. At the very least, we can say that his faith was not as strong as Paul's.

Things To Bear In Mind

  1. You could start out as an unwashed heathen, but true faith will play a part in helping God to make you a moral person; God is not done yet.
  2. When they judge, they judge you or God. They cannot use your imperfections as a measure of what faith is capable of, anymore than they can point to a elementary school student's lack of disertations, and question the quality of his education. Also, they cannot judge God's morals. Period. They can ask questions and learn, but they cannot call him to the carpet and demand an explanation.
  3. Strong and mature faith are clearly associated with obedience and trust in God, and his commandments, and therefore forming good morals.
  4. Next time, when an unwashed fool points out that Hitler claimed to be a Christian, say, "The heart is wicked and deceitful, and yet you still believed Hitler?? Don't worry, atheists seem to believe that kind stuff."

The end. Thank you for reading!

Please Be Careful With Our Garbage

People might wonder what the big deal is about releasing helium balloons into the sky. After all, it is such an emotional thing to do in memory of dead people.

The problem is much of our debris kills and hurts animals for a long time. The good responsible Christian thing for freedom loving people to do is always dispose of our things in the proper garbages or proper facilities. We are supposed to be good stewards of the planet.

Explanation For Passover And Easter Dates

Have you ever heard skeptics comment about how Christ could not have died on Friday, and risen on Sunday? A while ago, I came across this explanation about did die for 3 days and 3 nights. I remember being taught this in Bible college, but nobody else seemed to believe in it.

The Nature And Rules Of Miracles

I think that the concept of miracles within the context of the Bible needs a little bit of defining. I encourage people to read about miracles, before proceeding, but that page is huge. Read the remainder of this blog entry to see what I think.

God Permits Suffering: We Are To Focus On Blessings

I am struggling to find work, status, and a relationship. It is so humiliating and painful for me. I consider it to be a great adversity. I think that I finally understand the purpose of suffering in general.

These verses are from Job 35.

9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make [the oppressed] to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
10 But none saith, Where [is] God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

In those chapters, Elihu corrected Job, saying that Job needed to adjust his attitude. Elihu's comments were not about Job's attitude before the adversity. It was about Job's attitude during the adversity. In other words, Elihu says that we need to remember God's blessings during our adversity instead of focusing on the negatives.

This seems meaningful to me. We ought not be pitiful people who ask, Yeah, but what do I get out of it?. After all, God sends rain on the good and the evil. The rain is a figurative curse and a literal blessing for both good and evil. We should really take that to heart, and then praise God for the benefits of rain, even when we get too much of it. In my personal situation, I should tell people about my current sufferings, and then mention the great times that I have had in life.

Forget "Earning Your Way Into Heaven"

I am currently listening to some Christian debates on YouTube. It seems that Christians have the tendency to avoid claiming that good people will go to hell.

As it is, non-Christians have the tendency to believe that many people out there are good, and that good people are entitled to heaven, if heaven exists. As it is, Christians believe that we are disqualified from heaven, because we are sinful, and that we only get to heaven by the blood of Christ and repentance, etc. The idea is that everybody believes 1 of those 2 things, and everybody already knows that the other person believes it. Therefore, why argue about it? I think that everybody's time could be better spent if we move on.

I think Christians tend to avoid saying that good people go to hell, because it seems like such an insensitive thing. It would be like telling your sweet old grandmother whom you love so much that she is filthy. Who would want to do that?

If they want to hear us say it to make us look bad, then say it, and then move on. This is a discussion of morals, and not a visit to a seniors home or a funeral.

Honey Traps In Relationships

I read about women who are hired to catch men cheating by sleeping with them: The grandma and mum of four who is a £50k-a-year ‘honey trap’. There are guys who do the same to women. Read the remainder of the blog entry for my comments on the Biblical perspective.

Ontario Court Rules On Niqab [Muslim Veil]

I just read an interesting article about wearing the niqab. I personally believe that we do not need to give that religious freedom to them, and I would even argue that it is morally wrong to cover up a face in many circumstances. That being said, I think that Justice David Doherty wrote an interesting quote about the sincerity of person with respect to his religious beliefs. If you are into religion and politics, then read the remainder of the blog entry for the quote and my opinion.

The Failings Of Peer Review

Peer review is a good thing.

My main complaint with it is the people. Read on for my complaints.
